By Judy Weitzman There is an old saying, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.” Many studies have proven the importance of eating breakfast. However, some folks still have trouble making the time to eat in the morning. Grabbing a cup of coffee is not the same as eating something. If you are stopping at the local coffee shop, the fancy coffee drinks are loaded with calories and can wire you on caffeine and sugar. Then you are tempted by all of the ginormous sweets in their bakery case. Not a good scenario. Grabbing a bagel is not a great idea either. Did you realize that one bagel is equivalent to four slices of toast? OY! Would you rather hit the snooze button a few times than get up and make a good breakfast? If so, you are not alone. However, there are … Read More

Especially when it comes to eating healthy and working out. What time of day is most challenging for you? Is it getting out the door in the morning, during the day or in the evenings? No matter what time of day you feel challenged, you can live a healthier life by being prepared. Eating healthy is not easy or convenient, unless you make it that way. Most women go to the grocery store once a week to get all the basics, which is great. The trick is to allow an hour or so to prep your foods for the week. I know, I know, you don’t have the time. However, it is much more probable that you are dehydrated. Your best plan of action is … Read More
Diet Sabotage Learning How to Prevent It
I had been avoiding the scale knowing that I have been eating more than usual but nothing too extreme. So I made myself get on the scale this morning. I almost had heart failure. I have been staying in my maintenance range of 123 to 127 forever … Then out of nowhere my weight is at 129. OMG OMG OMG!!! So I tried the ‘scale dance’ – you know, where you get on and off the scale at least four or five times to see if the number changes and this time it held steady. No fluke. OY! What to do now? First instinct, I can’t eat. Panic sets in and nerves are aflutter. Get calm and make a plan. But first I need to figure out how the scale jumped up so high so that I know what to fix. I have not been overeating at meals. They have … Read More
Low-Calorie Afternoon Snack
Many people are hungry around 3 or 4 o’clock, which is often referred to as the “3 o’clock slump.” For many of us, the most common remedy is to grab a cup of “Joe” or a quick sugar fix like a candy bar. Unfortunately, while the coffee will wire you for a while and the sugar will give you a quick shot of energy … you will most probably find yourself crashing in a short amount of time. Your best bet for curbing those hunger pangs is to consume some protein for lasting energy. With that in mind, here is one of my favorite late afternoon treats: These Hummus Eggs are easy to make and will fill you up while giving you the energy you need to power you through until dinner time. Hummus is high in fiber to make you feel full while keeping your blood sugar levels from … Read More
